This Data Scientist – Machine Learning remote-first role, you will be instrumental in transforming the retail and hospitality industry through data-driven insights. As a leader in machine learning projects, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate impactful insights that directly influence our business. Key Responsibilities:

  • Machine Learning Expertise: Apply advanced machine learning techniques to address complex supply chain challenges in the retail and hospitality sectors, focusing on demand forecasting, labor management, and stock optimization.
  • Consumer Domain Knowledge: Leverage your in-depth understanding of the retail and hospitality industries, particularly in demand forecasting and labor and stock management, to guide data-driven decisions and strategies.
  • Independent Problem Solving: Take ownership of complex data science projects, working independently to drive them from inception to execution and delivering high-impact solutions.
  • Take the Initiative: Thrive in our small company environment by exploring innovative solutions. Our challenges can be ambiguous, and we seek candidates who are proactive and thrive in such settings.
  • Data Exploration and Analysis: Analyze large datasets to identify trends and develop data-driven recommendations for marketing and segmentation strategies.
  • Model Development: Build and deploy predictive models that integrate domain knowledge to generate operational efficiencies and drive business growth.
  • Collaboration: Work remotely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product management, and technology/engineering, to integrate data science solutions into business operations.
  • Communication: Effectively convey complex technical concepts and insights to non-technical stakeholders, facilitating data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Key skills required.

  • A master’s or doctoral degree in statistics, data science, computer science, or a similar discipline.
  • Experience in operational research and a track record of success as a senior data scientist with a strong emphasis on machine learning are advantages.
  • Extensive experience in consumer-facing businesses, such as the retail or hospitality sectors.
  • You must have advanced Python skills.
  • Cloud Experience: Vertex AI, AWS, Azure, GCP (recommended),
  • Proficiency with libraries and frameworks for machine learning (e.g., scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, LightGBM/XGBoost).
  • Familiarity with source control, containerization, deployment, and MLOPs.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity for independent work.
  • Strong team/project management.
  • Outstanding teamwork and communication abilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience in an AI environment.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, client-service environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
